Pulmonary Rehab

Ongoing Treatment & Management for Lung Disease

What is Pulmonary Rehabilitation?

A pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed to help people who have chronic lung conditions or muscle-wasting conditions, such as:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
  • Lung cancer
  • Muscular dystrophy

Pulmonary rehabilitation exercises are used to help strengthen muscles and improve breathing, and instruction is used to help you understand your disease and how to live with it.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center provides the support and physical therapy you need to meet the day-to-day challenges of living with a chronic lung disorder. Our goal is to help you enjoy the highest quality of life, and we reach that goal by providing you with a managed program of professionally supervised activities.

As a participant of the pulmonary rehab program, you will have a dedicated team of allies in your treatment. We personalize programs based on the specific needs of each patient. Your input matters – the course of your rehab will be tailored to reach your specific goals. You are not in this alone.

Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

You'll need a referral from your physician to enroll in our outpatient pulmonary rehab program. You must be medically stable, and you must be motivated to enhance your quality of life.

Once you are accepted into the program, the pulmonary rehabilitation team will evaluate your health and your understanding of your disease. Then, we'll create a program that's tailored to meet your needs.

You'll meet with your pulmonary rehab team twice each week in sessions that last about an hour. You'll have 24 sessions to complete.

Payment for pulmonary rehabilitation may be covered by medical insurance. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center is located on the first floor of the medical center next to the physical therapy department.
