From First Cry to Future Graduates

Introducing the Class of 2041

2023 was highlighted by the delightful arrival of 136 babies at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, each one marking the beginning of a new chapter. Fast forward to 2041, these once tiny bundles of joy will have transformed into the proud graduates of their generation, ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the world! We are so honored to be a part of their story.

Newborn Spotlight

“This was my first time giving birth at Carthage. The birth was a bit too quick and ended up happening at the ER but Dr. Wu and the team of nurses were quick to act allowing for a safe delivery. Each of my three sons were delivered at different hospitals, and Carthage's Nurses were the most caring out of all three. After leaving the hospital Diane Rucker, RN noticed I had forgotten the bassinet tag and sent it via usps for our momentos! Every caregiver I had was so cognizant of our needs, which made it a great experience. Benjamin Gazda was born August 25, 2023 at 2:53 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 3 ounces, measuring 19 1/2 inches in length.” - Emily Gazda

Welcome to the world Benjamin Gazda

Navigating Pediatric Appointments in a Baby's First Year

Birth to 3-5 Days: The Initial Assessments

The pediatric journey begins at birth, where the newborn undergoes their first comprehensive health check. This examination is crucial in identifying any immediate health issues and establishing baseline measurements. A follow-up visit within 3 to 5 days post-birth is essential for monitoring early developmental milestones, addressing feeding practices, and ensuring the infant’s overall well-being.

1 Month: Growth and Development Check

At one month, the focus is on assessing the baby's weight gain, growth, and overall development. This visit often includes discussions on feeding, sleep patterns, and parental concerns, providing a valuable opportunity for caregivers to seek advice and support.

2, 4, and 6 Months: Continual Growth Monitoring

Visits at 2, 4, and 6 months are integral for tracking the baby's growth and developmental progress. These appointments typically involve routine vaccinations, monitoring motor skills, and assessing sensory responses. Pediatricians also guide parents on upcoming developmental milestones.

9 and 12 Months: Milestones and Mobility

By 9 and 12 months, the focus shifts to the baby's mobility, language development, and social engagement. These visits also include discussions on introducing solid foods and ensuring a safe environment for an increasingly mobile child. The one-year checkup often marks a significant milestone with additional vaccinations and a comprehensive review of the baby's first year of growth and development.

These pediatric appointments are essential in ensuring a baby's healthy development, providing continuous support and guidance to parents during this critical first year.
