DAISY/BEE Recognition Award

DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® is an international recognition program supported by the DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the extraordinary, compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. “DAISY” is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Inspired by the exceptional care Patrick and his family received during his illness, the Foundation created this meaningful way to thank nurses for the profound difference they make in the lives of patients and families.

At North Star Health Alliance, nurses from Carthage Area Hospital (Carthage), Claxton-Hepburn Medical Campus (Claxton Campus), Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center (CHMC), North Country Orthopaedic Group (NCOG), and Meadowbrook Terrace (MBT) can be nominated for a DAISY Award by patients, families, and colleagues. Recipients are selected by a committee and recognized throughout the year during celebrations attended by their coworkers.

Each DAISY Award honoree receives a certificate designating them an “Extraordinary Nurse,” which reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and A Healer’s Touch – a meaningful sculpture hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

BEE Award

A DAISY may be the symbol of extraordinary nursing, but it only flourishes with the help of the BEE. At North Star Health Alliance, our nurses are supported every day by dedicated team members whose behind-the-scenes work makes compassionate care possible.

To recognize those essential team members who support patient care at Carthage, Claxton Campus, NCOG, and MBT, as well as across all of our outpatient clinics, may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. Any staff member who helps care for patients may be nominated, including transportation drivers and aides, unit or bussing assistants, phlebotomists, housekeepers, and many others. Honorees are selected by a committee and celebrated throughout the year.

Each BEE Award honoree receives a BEE Award pin, a certificate recognizing them as an exceptional caregiver, and a bag filled with goodies.
