  • Dr. Ravinder N. Agarwal Renal Center

The Agarwal Renal Center is dedicated to providing the very best in renal care.

Dialysis services began at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in 1968. In 1999, a freestanding dialysis center was opened next to the Medical Center. The twenty-four-station Dr. Ravinder N. Agarwal Renal Center provides services to patients from across the North Country.

Treatment at the Renal Center involves more than just dialysis. The staff considers the whole person and provides a individualized approach to care.

The Renal Center Staff along with nephrologists, Michael Seidman, MD, and Mansavi Jaitly, MD, work together to make sure that patients have expert attention to all their health care needs.

Our physicians are on site and available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

    Dialysis Treatments Available

    Hemodialysis
In hemodialysis, the patient comes to the renal center. The blood stream is accessed with needles or through a catheter. The blood is sent through a dialyzer or artificial kidney that acts as a filter to remove waste and extra fluid. Patients who rely on dialysis come to the renal center three times per week for 3-5 hours each visit.

    Home Hemodialysis

For patients that meet specific criteria, home hemodialysis is good treatment option. Each patient is trained to perform hemodialysis at home. Training often takes approximately 8 weeks. The training staff makes sure the patient is confident about performing each task before doing home hemodialysis.Patients can dialyze more often at home. People who dialyze at a clinic skip 4 days each week, so wastes and fluid build up in their bodies. Dialyzing at home five to seven times per week means wastes and fluid don’t build up as much in the body. Home hemodialysis lets the patient set the schedule. The patient can choose treatment times to fit other activities, such as going to work or caring for a family member.

    Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
PD is completed at home. With this treatment, a catheter is surgically placed into the peritoneal cavity in the abdomen. The patient does exchanges with a fluid that causes the body to push out the waste products and extra fluid through the peritoneal lining in the abdomen. This process takes about 30 minutes. Patients on peritoneal dialysis regularly visit the Renal Center for check-ups.

    Our Programs
    Continuous Education
We provide patients with different education topics every 3 months. We also work closely with the Natioinal Kidney Foundation to promote kidney screenings and fundraising events.

    Our Team
In addition to our physicians, our interdisciplinary team carries out each patient's care. Each team member plays an important role in the complete care of the patient.

    Nurses
Our experienced staff of RN and LPNs are here to provide direct patient care with the support of dialysis technicians.

    Dietitian
An on-site dietitian sees each patient regularly. A dietitian can help with meal planning and explaining how foods can affect your health as a dialysis patient.

    Social Worker
An on-site Social Worker is available to help both the patient and the family adjust to the changes that dialysis brings. Help is available with issues related to social, financial and personal concerns.

    Patients
At the Agarwal Renal Center, patients and family members are an important part of our team.
