Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy is a treatment program designed to help patients regain and increase their ability to communicate through speech. Speech therapists can also provide special exercises for coordinating the swallowing muscle or re-stimulating the nerves that trigger the swallow reflex.
Our licensed speech therapists can help restore function and improve your life in a variety of ways. They evaluate and treat individuals with speech/language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. They can evaluate a patient's impairment and develop a treatment plan.
We offer speech therapy for individuals with:
- Speech/language impairment as a result of stroke, dementia, and various neurological disorders
- Cognitive-linguistic deficits following head injury
- Post-operative counseling for laryngectomized patients
- Voice disorders resulting from disease or misuse of the voice
- Speech disorders
- Swallowing disorders (dysphagia)
- Developmental delays
Speech therapy services are offered for inpatients and outpatients at Claxton-Hepburn within the Rehabilitation Services Department.
