    Digital Mammography

Mammography is a safe, effective way to detect breast cancer. Images of the breast are taken with a special low dose X-ray machine that can detect lesions even before they can be felt. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center can accommodate you with our new machines that calculate the precise compression you need to get a good image of your breast. In addition, we use mammopads which cushion the compression and make your experience as comfortable as possible. The R-2 Checker, a computerized program that reviews all mammograms, is the latest technology available to ensure your breast health.

We provide the utmost in privacy with certified staff and prompt, friendly service. We are open Monday through Friday.

    DEXA (Bone Density)

Bone densitometry is a safe, comfortable and fast way to measure whether bones are thinning and becoming less dense. Low bone density can be detected long before osteoporosis occurs. All women begin to lose bone density after menopause. If you have more than one risk factor and you are over 50 years old, screening for osteoporosis will tell your doctor if you are losing calcium from your bones faster than the average female.

At our Connection for Women, we use the Lunar machine. The Lunar machine uses low dose radiation (commonly called "DEXA") to measure the density of the bones of your spine and hips. This is the best of all methods. DEXA is a safe, comfortable and fast way to measure whether bones are thinning and becoming less dense.

    Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a safe, painless procedure that uses sound waves to detect or monitor many conditions. It is a safe during pregnancy because there is no radiation used. It can also be used to diagnose abdominal and pelvic disorders, heart and blood vessel problems and other medical conditions. During the examination, the sonographer places gel on the skin and moves a transducer over the gelled skin. The transducer sends sound waves into the body area being studied. The reflected sound waves are converted to an image that is displayed on a monitor.
